Happy New Years Eve. For those of you who don’t know about it, the Chileman is running a chilli growing competition. Sponsored by fieryfoods.com, the challenge has been laid down to us all to grow the biggest “Big Jim”, which is a Numex variety of chilli. Should any of you be interested in participating for the prize of a trophy, books and seeds, not to mention the prestige which is associated with the competition, you can register at www.thechileman.org . If you need seeds, the website does list suppliers of seed, but for Australian participants, (except Tas and WA) I can offer a small quantity of seeds. Email me at chilli@lanacoora-chillies.com.au and I will arrange to send you some. Don’t forget to register with chileman first though.

This competition is a friendly one, really! My seeds are going in tomorrow, which is the first official day of the competition.

Hope you are all gearing up for New Years Eve. I of course, will probably be fast asleep by 9pm. Happens every year. If you are out and about, be safe, and have fun.

Hi everyone, Hope your christmas break was a good one. Just wanted to let you know that I have added a list of approximate heat levels associated with certain chillies. I have listed them out of ten, but three varieties are so off the scale, I have rated them accordingly.

I have certainly enjoyed making members of my extended family eat chillies while they have been staying with us - they guessed they would have no choice! They have survived, and enjoyed the experience. They have had chillies with bbq, with fruit, with nuts, in sauce, in scrambled eggs and in curry. We served capsicum, scotch bonnet, fatali, jalapeno, dutch cayenne, habanero, just to name a few. Unfortunately, my Naga morich plants are only in flower at the moment, so none of those were available for tasting.

Happy new Year.

I just wanted to wish everyone a very merry Christmas, and a fantastic new Year. Here in South East Queensland, it is a very warm Christmas day, and we are winding down after enjoying way too much food, wine, and of course, chilli. The plants are thriving and the fruit (pods/vegetables) are growing better each day. Photos will be coming up on the site soon. Take care on the roads, and have a wonderful time.

There is confusion about how to spell chilli:

  • Chilly - means it is cold.
  • Chile - is a country in South America
  • Chili - is a dish usually made with beans, beef and chilli
  • Chilli – is preferred by the Oxford English Dictionary and by experts like us.
Located in the perfect chilli territory of Tamborine, Lanacoora Chillies supplies chillies to local restaurants and markets.
